Like most pet owners Emmanuel Bernadin loves his dog unconditionally but this relationship does not stop there. Bronze is a trained service dog given to Bernadin to help with his depression after returning from serving in Afghanistan. Bronze is so important with Bernadin’s coping that he would make sure he can afford food often times chosen to be homeless to assure Bronze is taken care of. Sadly not all veterans have the opportunity to work with a service dog. Despite evidence showing the positive affects dogs have on Veterans the Veterans Health Administration does not cover the cost of training a service dog. To help these veterans the PAWS Act was created. This project will set aside $27,000 per dog for veterans with PTSD. The push to get service dogs to these veterans in hopes to bring down the suicide rate.
