The Department of Veterans Affairs is shutting down its regional benefits officers, transition assistance and other programs and expanding online services.
This decision is part of the VA’s efforts to limit exposure to vulnerable populations such as older veterans and those with underlying medical condition. In response to shutting down, the VA is expanding existing online services in an effort to remain available to veterans.
Veterans will continue to receive their benefits and services as the department plans to move online. Some in-person services are already available online including processing some claims and grants. Disability exams for benefits are being moved to telehealth and if an in-person examination is required, the VA will notify veteran.
This is a developing story, we will keep you up to date with any developments.
