Ed was born and raised in Chicago, IL. After completing high school, Ed joined the U.S. Army as an Infantry Mortarman. In 2004, Ed's unit was mobilized to serve in Iraqi Operation Freedom III. He was stationed at Camp Liberty in Baghdad where he helped train Iraqi Army soldiers and participated in offensive and defensive combat operations. Later he was transferred to Camp Taqqadum near Fallujah where he provided base security.
After returning from Iraq, Ed experienced the obstacles he had to overcome in order to obtain his veteran benefits from the VA. Wanting to help Veterans like himself to navigate the VA claims process, Ed attended law school at Valparaiso University School of Law. While in attendance Ed started Valparaiso Law School's first Veteran group, The Veterans' Law Society. In 2010 Ed graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso. Ed is still an active participant in The Veterans’ Law Society which provides support to student veterans as well as those veterans in the community.
